The Quarrymen were the first band to perform at Liverpool’s Casbah Coffee Club in 1959. The venue was owned by Mona Best, whose son Pete would eventually join the band when they were renamed the Beatles. The Quarrymen went on to play the Casbah 13 times, and when the band returned from Germany as the Beatles, they performed there more than 40 times. The original Casbah Coffee Club building is a popular tourist destination in Liverpool, and now, the Guardian reports that the Best family has turned it into an Airbnb called Casbah Coffee Club Suites.
The Airbnb is the idea of Pete’s younger brother Roag, giving Beatles fans an opportunity to stay a memorable night at the historic venue. Casbah Coffee Club Suites has designated rooms named for all members of the Beatles except Ringo Starr, but Best says there is no bad blood between them. “I still don’t know the reason today, but it doesn’t worry me one iota,” he said. “As far as I’m concerned, it happened 60-odd years ago, and I’ve lived my life, I’ve had a great life. It did cause me initial heartache and resentment, but that’s show business.” (Stereogum)
