Atreyu is promising fans “quite a surprise” this coming Friday. The cryptic pledge comes via a band statement and also a Facebook post, in which posted only the sentence, “We have a surprise for all of you this Friday.” An hour later, though, came an aerial view of what appears to be London, along with the caption, “Friday. September 5th. 2014.”
In the band statement, drummer Brandon Saller was less cryptic, but still mysterious, promising fans, “This is the rebirth of Atreyu. You have stood by us for countless years. This is for you. Thank you.”
Tune into Atreyu’s Facebook page this Friday, September 5 at 9 a.m. Eastern time to uncover the mystery.
FILE UNDER MORE FAITH NO MORE:
It’s been enough time to raise a child now old enough to vote: Faith No More has announced that it will release a new album in 2015, 18 years after the band’s last studio entry, Album of the Year.
The news was posted via Twitter in the form of a link to a band interview with Rolling Stone in which bassist Bob Gould says he and his band mates “decided: we’re going to get busy in 2015…make an album we’re proud of, kick things up a notch, [and] get out there and perform it.”
The news comes several months after the band took the step of starting a Twitter account — @FaithNoMore — and booking a couple of shows. Those included a July 4 gig in London opening for Black Sabbath at what may have been Sabbath’s last-ever show, and the following day at the Open’er Festival in Poland.
The band’s first tweet, back in May, was a post from singer Mike Patton who promised, “Stay tuned for more Tweets…the reunion thing was fun, but it’s time to get a little more creative!” And last month came even more provocative promise: “The Reunion Tour is over; in 2015 things are going to change.”
While fans will have to wait until next year for the new album, there is some new Faith No More music due in the near future, in the form of a 7-inch single with a title you can’t say on the radio — let’s call it “M.F.” — which will hit Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 28. The digital version is due December 9.
