NATIONAL HEADLINES:

WHITE HOUSE MEETING POSTPONED AS SENATE MOVES CLOSER TO DEAL

A planned White House meeting between President Obama and leaders of Congress waspostponed indefinitely yesterday, amidst talk that Senate leaders appeared near an agreement to end the two-week government shutdown, and hold off a default on the national debt, which could happen Thursday. The White House put off the meeting in order to give Senate Majority LeaderHarry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky time to firm up a deal. Both Reid and McConnell made public statements yesterday that they were optimistic a deal was close at hand. Earlier in the day, during an appearance at a local Washington food bank, Obama hinted that an agreement could be in the works. "I think that there's been some progress on the Senate side with Republicans recognizing it's not tenable, it's not smart … to let America default," he said. But even if the Senate comes up with an agreement, it still could have a problem passing in the House.

In September, a man was arrested after scaling a fence to get onto the grounds. SHOWBIZ NEWS:

BACHELOR COUPLE TO MARRY LIVE ON ABC

Former Bachelor Sean Lowe and fiancée Catherine Giudici are turning their TV romance into a TV wedding. The couple announced on Good Morning America yesterday that they will tie the knot during a live ABC special airing January 26th, 2014. It will be the first time a Bachelor /Bachelorettewedding has ever aired live. “Hopefully everything goes smoothly,” said Lowe. “The Bachelor is such a cool experience because people at home feel like they know us and they’re invested in our relationship. We have no problem sharing the actual wedding with everyone who has been with us so far.”

McCARTHY RUINING THE VIEW?

Jenny McCarthy is not doing so well on The View. A source on the ABC show told Radaronline that the 40-year-old’s job is in jeopardy because she’s been very unpopular with viewers. “ABC has begun doing deep research on Jenny’s work on the show and the initial findings are that viewers want to tune out the second she opens her mouth!” the source told Radar. “The data has revealed that she is FAR more off-putting than Elisabeth (Hasselbeck).” The insider says that as of right now there are no plans to replace Jenny, but Barbara Walters is concerned so, “Jenny needs to turn it around or she’ll be gone.”

BARBARA CALLS OUT JENNY FOR ANTI-SEMITIC REMARK

Meanwhile, Jenny McCarthy got scolded by Barbara Walters for making an anti-Semitic remark on The View yesterday. The panel was discussing a Miley Cyrus interview in which she was quoted as saying, “With magazines, with movies, it’s always weird when things are targeted for young people yet they’re driven by people that are like 40 years too old. It can’t be like this 70-year-old Jewish man that doesn’t leave his desk all day, telling me what the clubs want to hear.” Jenny commented, “I tell you, I’d listen to anyone who’s Jewish, they know how to make some money.” Well, Babs was not at all amused. “That is an anti-Semitic remark,” said Walters. “When I created this show, one of the things that I wanted very much, was for people to be able to say anything and to give their own opinions…but we also have to be sensitive. And what means something to one person doesn’t necessarily mean it to another … to someone who’s Jewish, it sounds a little anti-Semitic.”

Sunday’s New York Comic Con panel for The X-Files ended with a proposal. Thirty-year-old paralegal Miguel Acuna became a huge fan of the Fox show after being turned on to it by his 26-year-old girlfriend Morgan Childs, so he decided the perfect place to propose was during the panel. As stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson were on stage talking about the Mulder and Scully romantic relationship, Acuna begged staff to let him ask a question. “What I got from the show was how important it is to have a really good partner," Acuna began. "So with that, I actually have a request and a question. The request is if I could have your blessing, and the question actually is to my girlfriend." He then took out a ring, and as the crowd erupted with applause he asked, "Will you do the honor of marrying me?" Childs embraced him, and he asked, "Is that a yes?" At that point, Duchovny chimed in. "I think what we should do," he said, "you asked for our blessing, you guys should come up here!" They got to the stage and received hugs from the two stars.
