NYC MARATHON TAKES PLACE UNDER HEAVY SECURITY
After getting canceled due to Superstorm Sandy last year, the New York City Marathon was back in full force yesterday. The race took place under the protection of heavy security, including police presence on land and by sea. While no specific threats were identified, New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the NYPD was well equipped and well deployed to deter any event. Kelly even said he had met with 20 Bostonand Massachusetts police officials to discuss what they had learned after April’s Boston Marathon bombing. But everything went off without a hitch, with Kenyan Geoffrey Mutai winning the men’s race with a time of 2:08:24 and Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo taking first place in the women’s race with a finish time of 2:25:07. American Tatyana McFadden won the female’s wheelchair race, earning her the honor of a “Grand Slam,” since she also won 2013’s London, Boston and Chicago wheelchair marathons. Marcel Hug of Switzerlandfinished first in the men’s wheelchair race.
LAX GUNMAN SAID HE WORKED ALONE
The 23-year-old gunman who opened fire at Los Angeles International Airport on Friday told authorities that he acted alone. Paul Ciancia reportedly told police that he was dropped off at the airport by a friend. Police said they do not believe the friend knew he was planning to start shooting inside LAX’s Terminal 3. Ciancia was charged with killing one Transportation Security Administration officer – identified as 39-year-old Gerardo I. Hernandez – and wounding four others, including two more TSA officers. Ciancia, an unemployed motorcycle mechanic, was shot four times by airport police and is under 24-hour armed guard at the hospital. It was unclear why he targeted TSA agents, but in a handwritten note found inside his duffel, Ciancia stated he "made the conscious decision to try to kill" multiple TSA employees and that he wanted to "instill fear in their traitorous minds."
ROMNEY SAYS OBAMACARE “DISHONESTY” HURTING OBAMA’S 2ND TERM
Former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press yesterday and took aim at President Obama’s Affordable Care Act. Romney said the president’s “fundamental dishonesty” on Obamacare has “put in peril the whole foundation of his second term.” He said had Obama “been truthful and told the American people that millions would lose their insurance and millions more would see their premiums skyrocket… there would have been such a hue and cry against it, (that) it would not have passed.” Romney said that even though he signed a similar healthcare law when he was governor of Massachusetts, it was a mistake to design a “one-size-fits-all” national health insurance mandate as Obama did.
Meanwhile, the government announced yesterday that the glitch-plagued Obamacare website, Healthcare.gov, will go offline from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. daily while a technology team works on repairing its problems.

Obama senior adviser Dan Pfeiffer said on ABC’s This Weekyesterday that no such offers for clemency were being discussed and that Snowden should return to the U.S. to face charges. “Look, Mr. Snowden violated U.S. law,” Pfeiffer said. “Our belief has always been that he should return to the U.S. and face justice.” Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein ofCalifornia and Rep. Mike Rogers of Michigan made similar statements over the weekend. Rogers called clemency for Snowden “a terrible idea.”

SHOWBIZ NEWS:
CHARLIE RANTS AGAINST EX-WIFE BROOKE
Charlie Sheen does not want his sons anywhere near their mother Brooke Mueller. Charlie called into TMZ Friday telling the site his four-and-a-half-year-old twins Bob and Max have suffered physical and emotional damage while in the care of their drug-addicted mother. He says that Bob has had “night terrors” because Brooke recently bought a bunch of critters for her house, and when they return from being with Brooke they become “absolute nightmares.” Charlie says he’s complained to L.A. Child Services, but they’ve done nothing, and he’s worried because Brooke, who he called a “twisted svengali,” is about to get more time with the kids (they currently live with Charlie’s other ex-Denise Richards). On Twitter, Charlie called Brooke an “evil and pathetic uber loser,” and a “whore.” It is unclear whether Brooke is on drugs again, but Charlie says, regardless, “She’s as awful a parent and person as you can possibly draw up.”
COURTNEY STODDEN SPLITS FROM DOUG HUTCHISON
Hollywood’s ickiest romance has finally come to an end. Radaronline was first to report thatCourtney Stodden, 19, has separated from her husband, 53-year-old The Green Mile star Doug Hutchison. The odd couple married in May, 2011, when Courtney was only 16. Courtney, who recently appeared on the UK’s Celebrity Big Brother, was the one to end the marriage. Insiders say during her time on the reality show she began feeling more independent. “Courtney has changed so much since being in that house,” claims a source. ‘She is more independent and just wants to have fun like any 19 year old.”
LEA MICHELE REVEALS HOW KATE HUDSON HELPED HER FOLLOWING MONTEITH’S DEATH
Lea Michele says actress Kate Hudson helped her tremendously after Cory Monteith’s death earlier this year. "I called [Kate Hudson] and said, ‘I don't know where I'm going to go because my house is swarmed [with reporters],'" Michele told Elle magazine. "She was like, ‘Oh, you're going to stay at my house.' Like it was nothing. No one knew I was there. I'll never really be able to thank her, truly, for what she did for me." As for how she’s been able to cope since Cory’s death, Lea says, “I never thought I would be in this position in my whole life. Now that I am in this position, you can choose to rise, and that's what I'm going to try to do.” She adds, “I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people."
CASINO WANTS REFUND FROM LATE LINDSAY
Lindsay Lohan’s inability to be on time may cost her a lot of money. TMZ reports the Mean Girlsstar was paid more than $50,000 to host a Halloween party at the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut last week, but she showed up so late the casino is now asking for a refund. Lindsay was supposed to arrive at 10 pm and walk the red carpet, but instead showed up at 11:43 and walked straight into the party without posing for photos or talking to fans. Foxwoods is now trying to renegotiate the deal because they feel she did not live up her end of the bargain.

Us Weekly reports there may be romance trouble for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes. Insiders say the couple is going through a rough patch, and actually broke up six months ago, before getting back together. Sources say the problem is with Mendes’ jealously issues. While Ryan can be very “moody,” Eva is known to be “insecure.” Insiders add that while Eva used to “gush” about the Gangster Squad star, now she “shuts down anyone who brings up Ryan. It's clear something is wrong."
BROLIN FIGHTS, THEN HUGS BAR BOUNCER
Josh Brolin does not like to be told when to stop partying. TMZ cameramen shot video of the actor fighting with bouncers at a Santa Monica bar Friday night after he was forced outside because the bar was closing. The very drunk Josh is seen attempting to punch a bouncer, but failing to connect. Eventually the bouncer somehow convinces Josh they had been hugging not fighting, so Josh gives him a giant bear hug. Then, as the bouncer tries to hail Josh a cab, he runs off.
KELSEY HASN’T SEEN KIDS IN MONTHS
Sounds like Kelsey Grammer won’t be winning any Father of the Year awards. Sources tell Radaronline the former Frasier star hasn’t seen his two kids with ex-wife Camille in over six months. Camille recently revealed that she reached out to Kelsey after she received her cancer diagnosis but she told a Twitter follower her ex, “has never contacted me or the kids about my health.” Camille had her cancer surgery in Houston while Mason, 12, and Jude, 9, stayed in California for school, and sources say, “Kelsey didn’t see the children. He didn’t make any attempt to visit them or have the kids stay with him.” The source says Kelsey calls his kids but, “it’s been a very long time since they actually saw their father.” Kelsey’s rep denies the story, telling Radar, “your sources are full of it and clueless as well.”
LAMAR CAUGHT DRINKING AT L.A. CLUB
Reports have claimed Lamar Odom has been clean and sober for the past few weeks, but it doesn’t sound like that’s necessarily true. While he may be drug free, sources at Beacher’s Madhouse in Hollywood claim he was seen drinking up a storm Wednesday night. Lamar was at the club with a group of friends and eyewitnesses tell TMZ the NBA star was doing shots of Patron and drinking champagne all night. Insiders say he was “hammered,” and stayed at the bar until closing, but was still ready to party more. While waiting for his car at valet, Lamar was reportedly heard talking about going to an “after party.”
PALTROW DOESN’T CARE
Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t care if you don’t like her. “The older I get, I realize it doesn’t matter what people who don’t know you think. It doesn’t matter. You’re wasting your time,” she tells the British magazine Red. "It's like, if your partner comes to you – or your best friend – and says, 'Listen, I want to talk about something you did that hurt me, or I think you could improve,' sit down and listen to what they have to say. But some friend of so-and–sos – it's like, who gives a s—?" Gwyneth has particularly harsh words for women who judge other women. "Nobody else can tell [a woman] how many hours a week she needs to devote to this, that or the other … F*** what anybody else says … It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks,” she says. “That's what we've got to let go of. That idea of 'Oh god, if I don't show up to this concert, all the other mums are going to think I'm terrible.' Well, so f—ing what."

Orlando Bloom has finally broken his silence about his recently-announced separation from wifeMiranda Kerr. “We love each other. We’re a family. We’re going to be in each other’s lives for the rest of our lives,” Bloom told Katie Couric. “There’s no question for the sake of our son and everything else, we’re going to support one another and love each other as parents to Flynn.” As for what went wrong, Orlando would only say, “Life sometimes doesn’t work out exactly as we plan or hope for, but fortunately we’re adults….we’re professionals and we love and care about each other and we most of all love our son.”
LOVE SUES LAWYER
Courtney Love is suing a lawyer who she claims ruined her relationship with her daughterFrances Bean Cobain. In a new suit, Love says she hired attorney Rhonda J. Holmes in 2008 to look into millions of dollars allegedly stolen from Kurt Cobain’s estate. Love says even though Holmes worked on the case for months, she didn’t make any progress. What’s worse, Love says the lawyer sent a bizarre secret letter to Frances in which she warned the then-16-year-old of “a very scary conspiracy” and asked for access to Frances’ trust fund in order to “ease this matter out of your Mom’s hands.” Love says she didn’t learn of the letter, which was a breach of attorney-client confidentiality, until two years later, and she believes it ruined her relationship with Frances because it convinced the teen she couldn’t trust her mom. Love is suing Holmes for legal malpractice and is claiming emotional distress.

According to the site, Cory was being interviewed in connection with the child molestation case brought by Jordy Chandler against Michael Jackson when he mentioned his own abuse. “I myself was molested,” Cory is heard telling cops. He even named his abusers, but the police didn’t care because they were so focused on the Jackson case. “I know what it’s like to go through those feelings and believe me, the person who molested me, if this was him that did that to me, this would be a different story. I would be out there, up front, doing something immediately to have this man given what was due to him.” In his book, Coryography, Cory insists his relationship with Jackson was a healthy one and he wasn’t abused by the King of Pop.

The members of Slayer say they won’t tackle the thorny subject of what the future holds without late co-founder Jeff Hanneman until they finish their current North American tour at the end of this month. Bassist Tom Araya told Billboard, “We’re at a point where we’re obviously going to have to do a lot of communication and figure out where we want to go. Three weeks after (Hanneman) died we were back on the road…meeting our contractual obligations… We’ve never really had an opportunity to really sit down and discuss what we’re feeling and where we are and where we want to go.”
MOTLEY CRUE BIOPIC TO BE HELMED BY JACKASS DIRECTOR
In a somehow seemingly fitting move, producers of the upcoming Motley Crue biopic, Dirt, have picked Jeff Tremaine, director of the just released Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, to helm the Crue’s story of rock and raunchiness. According to Deadline, Dirt will be about “big hair, big sound, big money, big brawls, scandals and debauchery, and the inevitable big problems caused by drugs, drink and living and breathing the rock-and-roll lifestyle as the quartet rose from playing local clubs on Hollywood’s Sunset Strip to touring the world as global rock stars.” Cameras will start to roll early next year.
MY MORNING JACKET’S JAMES SEES DYLAN TOUR AS MIXED BAG
Admitted “pipe dreams” of getting to jam night after night with the legendary Bob Dylan had My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James amped to hit the road with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer over the summer, but the experience turned out to be so-so. James told Rolling Stone, “The whole concept of the tour was supposed to be super collaborative. Bob really wasn’t around. We never talked to him once. He does not hang…” Finally, three weeks into the tour, James and Wilcofrontman Jeff Tweedy were invited to join Dylan at the end of his set a few times towards the end of the tour, an experience James says was “really cool, and something I’ll be able to tell the grandkids about.”

It’s something you’ve never seen. But it’s pure dance mixed with theater.”
TYLER TOUTS DEBUT SOLO ALBUM; RECORD DUE EARLY 2014
Longtime Aerosmith fans will certainly wonder whether Steven Tyler working on his solo debut album is a sign the Boston-based band is teetering on splitting up. The frontman told a Beantown radio station that he’s “finishing up some songs for my solo record that I’m doing,” adding that “January, February, March” is the projected window for its release. Tyler did not say what Aerosmith’s next move might be.
LOVE LOBS LAWSUIT AT LEGAL EAGLE
No stranger to litigation, Courtney Love has filed a lawsuit against her own former attorneyRhonda J. Holmes, claiming she failed to do what she was originally hired to do and undermined Love’s relationship with her daughter, Frances Bean Cobain. Love says she hired Holmes in 2008 to find millions of dollars she suspected had been ripped off from the estate of her late husband,Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, which Love says Holmes failed to do. In addition, Love alleges Holmes wrote a letter to a then 16-year old Frances warning her that her mother was involved in a “very scary conspiracy,” adding, “The sooner I have your support and hence the support of your Trust Fund, the sooner I can ease this matter out of your mom’s hands.” Love says the letter was a breach of attorney-client confidentiality and ruined her relationship with her daughter. Love is suing Holmes for legal malpractice and emotional stress.
REED TRIBUTE T-SHIRT INTENTIONALLY FEATURES WRONG ROCKER
Manufacturers of a t-shirt designed to pay tribute to the late Lou Reed have lots of fans scratching their heads wondering how they could have made such a blatant mistake, but putting Iggy Pop on the front of the shirt in between “Lou Reed” and “1942-2013” was no accident. Detroit-based Wethouse has pulled this prank before; images on its website show they put a photo of Prince on a shirt designed to pay tribute to Michael Jackson, and they’ve put a new twist on the “Ugly Christmas Sweater” by designing an “Ugly Hanukkah Sweater.”
