AMERICANS COMMEMORATE 12TH ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11
Solemn memorials took place across the country yesterday to commemorate the 12th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks. Crowds gathered at the site of the fallen Twin Towers in New York City at 8:46 am ET for a moment of silence marking when the first plane hit the building. President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden also marked this moment on the lawn of the White House. The president later observed a moment of silence at the time at which Flight 77 hit the Pentagon. “Let us have the strength to face down the threats that endure, different though they may be from 12 years ago, so that as long as there are those who will strike our citizens, we will stand vigilant and defend our nation,” the President said. On Tuesday, workers in Shanksville, Penn., broke ground on the Flight 93 National Memorial, beginning construction on the visitor center that will tell the story of Flight 93. The attacks on September 11, 2001 killed nearly 3,000 people.
PUTIN WRITES NY TIMES OP-ED/UN SECURITY COUNCIL TO MEET
Russian President Vladimir Putin took out an op-ed in today’s New York Times to warn against U.S. military intervention in Syria. In the article title “A Plea for Caution From Russia,” which was posted yesterday to theTimes website, Putin said that a strike from the U.S. could unleash a new wave of terrorism, increase violence and further destabilize the Middle East and North Africa. He also said it’s alarming how military intervention in foreign countries has become the norm for the U.S. He said millions around the world increasingly see America not as a model for democracy, but as a country who relies on brute force. Putin even when so far as to suggest that the Syrian rebels, not Bashar Assad’s regime, may have been responsible for the poison gas attack on a Damascus suburb.
Meanwhile yesterday, the UN Security Council was set to meet in New York to discuss the situation in Syria. Envoys from the U.S., Russia, Britain, France and China will be attending the talks.
2 DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS OUSTED IN COLORADO RECALL ELECTION

The election was promoted by both grassroots pro-gun activists and the National Rifle Association. Senate President John Morse lost by 343 votes Tuesday in the Republican stronghold ofColorado Springs and Sen. Angela Giron lost by a bigger margin in the Democratic-leaning Pueblo. Democrats will still maintain control of the state legislature and the laws are expected to remain in place.
OHIO DRUNK DRIVING SUSPECT ENTERS SURPRISE NOT GUILTY PLEA
The Ohio man who confessed on YouTube to killing a man in a drunk driving accident entered a surprise not guilty plea yesterday afternoon. Matthew Cordle, 22, released the online video on September 3 detailing the events of June 22nd, when he allegedly drove the wrong way on the interstate and crashed into 61-year-old veteran Vincent Canzini. Cordle’s lawyer said the not guilty plea was a formality to ensure that a random judge would be assigned to the case. Cordle was initially supposed to be arraigned Tuesday, but Judge Julie Lynch postponed the hearing, saying she was blindsided by the plea. "Everything was going to be guilty," Lynch said. "I'm somewhat incensed by somebody who isn't forthright with the court." Yesterday, Lynch set Cordle’s bail at $150,000. Cordle is charged with one count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

In a response to a question during an interview with a Venezuelan newspaper, Archbishop Pietro Parolin stated that celibacy is not church dogma and therefore can be discussed. But he added that clerical celibacy is deeply rooted in Catholic tradition. "The efforts that the church made to keep ecclesiastical celibacy, to impose ecclesiastical celibacy, have to be taken into consideration," Parolin said. "One cannot say simply that this belongs in the past." Still, his approach towards the topic was a different one for the Church. Many of Pope Francis’predecessors had declared the subject off-limits.

ANOTHER WOMAN SAYS SHE HAD FLING WITH LAMAR ODOM
A third woman has come forward claiming to have had a decade-long affair with Khloe Kardashian’s husband Lamar Odom. Twenty-nine-year-old graduate student Sandy Schultztells Star magazine she met Lamar in 2003 at a nightclub in West Hollywood, way before he even knew Khloe. They “dated solidly” for two years, “and then on and off for seven years after that.” “I was very much in love with him,” Schultz says. “My nickname for him was ‘Lam Lam,’ and to hear Khloe calling him that now is like a dagger through my heart.” In 2006, after Lamar didn’t propose, she moved out of the country and got engaged to another man, but then returned the next year and once again picked things up with the NBA star. By 2009 she broke things off with her fiancé to be with Lamar, but that didn’t last either. That August, Schultz and her sister accompanied Lamar to a party thrown by L.A. Laker Ron Artest, which is where Lamar met Khloe. One month later they were married. But two years after that, Schultz claims she reunited with Lamar in San Francisco when he was in town for a game and they spent two nights together in his hotel room. But when the weekend was over, Lamar left her $800 and they never spoke again.

After a big-time agent told her the same thing, and gave her a list of plastic surgeons that could make her eyes “look better,” Julie considered going under the knife. She said both her mother and father at first were unhappy but eventually accepted her decision. Said Julie, “they told me that they'd support me, and they'd pay for it, and that they'd be there for me." And sadly, the surgery did help. As for their relationship, Craig would only say, "I'm far happier than I've been for many years," adding, "I think finding the right person and being with the right person is probably the answer to most things." Matt Lauer was not happy about how the press handled the firestorm surrounding the departure ofAnn Curry from Today. “The way the media treated what happened with Ann Curry was a disappointing learning experience,” he told Esquire. “I was disappointed by the laziness of the media, the willingness to read a rumor, repeat that rumor, and treat it as a fact.” The press pretty much blamed Lauer for Curry’s firing, but he admits there wasn’t much he could do to change their opinion. “What were my options?” he said. “Does anyone want to see a person who’s making the money that the newspapers say I’m making complaining, ‘Woe is me, my life is terrible, and people are being unfair’? No one would’ve had any patience for that. I wouldn’t have any patience for that. So you just shut up and go about doing your job.”
