AT LEAST 38 PRO-MORSI PRISONERS KILLED IN EGYPT/DEATH TOLL RISES TO OVER 900

At least 38 Muslim Brotherhood prisoners in Egypt were killed during a prisoner transfer Cairo yesterday. The prisoners – all supporters of former president Mohammed Morsi – had all been detained after Saturday’s clashes at Cairo’s Al-Fateh mosque and were reportedly being transferred to Abu Zaabal prison. Egypt’s interior ministry said one of the prisoners tried to take a police officer hostage, prompting the security forces to respond with tear gas inside the security van. They said at least 38 Morsi supporters inside the van died of tear gas inhalation. But according to the the Anti-Coup Alliance, which is led by the Brotherhood, the van was attacked and the prisoners were shot to death. Their deaths raised the death toll for four days of unrest across the country to 924 people. On Saturday alone, clashes between Morsi supporters and police killed 79 people. Defense Minister Gen. Abdel-Fatah el-Sissi, who led the July coup that ousted President Morsi, vowed yesterday that the army will not tolerate further political violence. He also said the army has no intention of seizing power of the country.

IDAHO WILDFIRE SPREADS, MORE FIREFIGHTERS CALLED IN

A massive wildfire in Idaho has spread to more than 100,000 acres and threatened nearly 10,000 homes near the towns of Hailey and Ketchum. A break in windy conditions and the arrival of more firefighters helped slow the growth of the blaze yesterday, but the Beaver Creek Fire was still just 9 percent contained. About 1,000 people have fled their homes in Ketchum, a ski town where celebrities like Tom Hanks and Bruce Willis have vacation homes. More than 1,000 firefighters were working to keep the flames from spreading to residential areas. The fire was sparked by lightning on August 7. It has been fueled by gusting winds and dry brush.

PENN STATE SETTLES FIRST CLAIM IN SANDUSKY CASE

Penn State has settled its first claim in the Jerry Sandusky child abuse case. According to attorney Tom Kline, a 25-year-old suburban Philadelphia man known as "Victim 5" came to an agreement with the university that once employed Sandusky as an assistant football coach. Details on the settlement were not released. Kline also said 25 other of the 31 civil cases against the school were close to being finalized. Last year, Penn State announced that it hoped to compensate Sandusky’s victims fairly and quickly. The university’s trustees have authorized around $60 million to be used for settlements. Sandusky, 69, is serving a 30- to 60-year state prison sentence after being convicted of child molestation and related offenses.

BRITISH OFFICIALS DETAIN PARTNER OF JOURNALIST WHO REPORTED THE NSA LEAK

British security officials yesterday detained the partner of Glenn Greenwald, the journalist who first revealed classified NSA documents leaked by Edward Snowden. Greenwald, who writes for the UK-based Guardiannewspaper, said he was told early yesterday morning that authorities had held and questioned his live-in partner David Miranda for nearly nine hours at Heathrow Airport outside London. They had apparently detained Miranda under a provision of a British anti-terrorism law that permits authorities to stop, search, question and detain individuals at airports, ports and border areas. According to Greenwald, authorities asked Miranda for the password to his laptop computer, and what he knew about the documents that Snowden had provided to Greenwald and documentary filmmaker Laura Poitras. They also confiscated Miranda's laptop, mobile phone, camera, memory sticks, DVDs and games consoles. Greenwald expressed his outrage over the matter in a post on the Guardian website. "It's bad enough to prosecute and imprison sources,” he wrote. “It's worse still to imprison journalists who report the truth. But to start detaining the family members and loved ones of journalists is simply despotic."

NEW ALLEGATIONS ARISE ABOUT PRINCESS DIANA’S DEATH

There have been conspiracy theories ever since the deaths of Princess Diana and her companion Dodi al Fayed, but new British reports are alleging the couple may have been murdered by British special forces. The Mirror reported over the weekend that the new allegation surfaced at a second court martial of Sgt. Danny Nightingale, who was found guilty of illegal gun possession. Among the evidence at the trail was a letter from a former soldier’s estranged in-laws that makes the claim that the SAS (Special Air Service) "was behind Princess Diana's death." On Saturday, Scotland Yard said that British police were looking into new information that has surfaced in connection with the deaths of Diana and al Fayed, though it did not give details on what the new information might be. Following the fatal car crash in Paris in 1997, a $7 million joint French and British police investigation concluded that Diana, al Fayed and their driver Henri Paul’s deaths were accidents.

SHOWBIZ NEWS:

LINDSAY ADMITS TO OPRAH THAT SHE’S AN ADDICT

Lindsay Lohan finally admitted she was an addict during her interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired Sunday night. The 27-year-old said alcohol was her drug of choice, and it became “a gateway to other things,” including cocaine, which she said she did 10 to 15 times. Said Lindsay, “It was like a party thing. People would have it and I would do it.” The Mean Girls star, who also admitted Adderall was another addiction, blamed her family problems for her substance abuse issues. “A lot of stuff went on when I was young with my family and I grew up in a very chaotic home…” she said. “Unfortunately, I waited too long to face it.” Lindsay sat down with Oprah just four days after leaving court-mandated rehab, and admitted she never took her previous rehab stints seriously because she had “resentment” about being there. But she believes her latest stint was different. “I don’t think in the past I ever fully surrendered to the fact that I just needed to shut up and listen,” she said. “In this case, I wasn’t fighting at all.” As for her career, Lindsay says she “hates” being a prime example of a child star gone bad. “It’s not what I ever aspired to be and it’s not what I want for my life,” she said, adding “I have to regain the trust of people and my career… and I fully respect that.”

LOHAN WATCHED HERSELF IN REHAB

Lindsay Lohan really loves herself. Sources say during her most recent rehab stint at Cliffside Malibu she passed the time watching movies on iTunes, and quite often they were movies she starred in. “There was more than once when Lindsay would rent or buy a movie on iTunes that she’d starred in,” an insider told Radar. “She basically forced me to watch that crappy movie I Know Who Killed Me with her, the one where she plays a stripper.” And apparently Lindsay thought it was perfectly normal to watch herself. “She’s such a narcissist and attention seeker that she didn’t think it was weird at all to watch her own movies,” the source said. “Everyone else thought it was really embarrassing of her to do that! But whatever. It was like she was trying to re-live a time when she was actually a working actress.”

KIM K CALLS OUT KATIE

In a recent interview with In Touch Weekly, Katie Couric was quoted badmouthing theKardashian family, telling the mag, "I don’t understand — why are [the Kardashians] so famous? I think it’s mostly teenage girls that are interested." Well, that apparently didn’t sit too well with Kim Kardashian. On Friday she posted a picture of a gift Katie sent her before the birth of her daughterNorth, with the hashtag, "I hate fake media friends" and "May I humbly suggest you not send gifts then talk s**t." Katie later tried to explain herself, insisting her statement was not meant as an insult. “I've met Kim before and I think she's a really sweet person. I was responding to a reporter's question, and explaining how I'm intrigued by the public's fascination with her family,” she explained. "I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings." She then added, "The gift is genuine, and I'm happy for Kim and Kanye."

KYLIE CELEBRATES SWEET 16/KIMYE MISS PARTY FOR FUNERAL

Kylie Jenner celebrated her Sweet 16 Saturday with a star-studded event at the AT&T Center in Los Angeles. Most of Kylie’s family attended the big bash, as well as her beau Jaden Smith, Hailee Steinfeld, Tyga and Glee's Naya Rivera. Missing from the party was Kim Kardashian, Kanye West and baby North, who traveled to Oklahoma Saturday to attend the funeral for the rapper’s grandfather Portwood Williams, who died August 10th at 98 years old. But the couple was said to be responsible for two of the party’s surprise guest Drake and Big Sean.

J.LO’S BEAU RUINS IDOL ANNOUCEMENT

Jennifer Lopez’s boyfriend Casper Smart let the cat out of the bag over the weekend – J. Lo is definitely coming back to American Idol. On Friday, during an interview with E! news, Smart was asked whether his gal would be back in the fall and he simply replied, “yes,” not realizing Fox had yet to make the official announcement. Guess Smart wasn’t so smart.

BROWN GETS COMMUNITY SERVICE DO-OVER

Looks like Chris Brown will be re-doing his community service. Earlier this year, the Los Angeles D.A. accused him of manipulating records with regards to his probation in the Rihanna beating case by submitting fake community service reports. Brown’s probation was then revoked last month because of hit-and-run charges (which were later dropped). Well, on Friday a judge reinstated Brown’s probation, but ordered him to complete an additional 1,000 hours of community service. In addition, that work must all be done in Los Angeles. Last time he was allowed to complete the service in his home state of Virginia.

PATTINSON HITS SECURITY GUARD IN FACE

Robert Pattinson was caught on camera Saturday shoving a club security guard. The Twilightstar was being escorted out of the Troubadour in Hollywood, when photographers swarmed his car. At one point a clearly annoyed Pattinson shoved his hand in the face of one of the guards, causing him to drop his glasses. Apparently he thought the guard was a member of the paparazzi who had been hounding him.

CRIMINAL MINDS STAR CATFISHED

Criminal Minds star Thomas Gibson was duped by a woman on the Internet. According to TMZ, the actor had a two-year Internet relationship with a woman from North Dakota, who exchanged explicit photos and video with the married actor. But apparently she wasn’t who she said she was, and was using photos she stole from various porno sites. TMZ got a hold of one of those videos, which was sent around Christmas time last year. The woman claims things were going fine with the actor until about two months ago, when she got a letter from his lawyers demanding she stop contacting him because he figured out she was not who she claimed to be.

BYNES MOVED TO NEW FACILITY

Amanda Bynes was moved Thursday from a psychiatric facility in Ventura County to UCLA Medical Center. TMZ cameras caught a pic of Amanda, shielded in a blanket as she left. Bynes’ mother, who has a temporary conservatorship over the 27-year-old, was the one who requested the actress be transferred to UCLA because it has one of the best psych facilities in the country.

GIA’S MOTHER SHOOTS DOWN REPORTS ABOUT HER DAUGHTER

The mother of Bachelor contestant Gia Allemand issued a statement Friday in an attempt to set the record straight about the various reports connected with her daughter’s death. "As her mother, I am well aware of Gia's close friends and her best friends, and I am personally going on record to refute all statements to the media out there thus far with the exception of official statements we have released through publicist Penelope Jean Hayes, and those jointly with Ryan Anderson'sNBA team representation,” said mom Donna Micheletti. "Gia liked everyone and always found the good in people, however there were acquaintances that she had disassociated with whom are now speaking as her close friends.” Donna added, “After the funeral, I do intend to speak about my dear daughter's life and death, and will do so in an open disclosure way with a trusted media source. Thank you for all those truly concerned and God bless." A funeral for Allemand, who committed suicide last week, is expected to take place later this week in Queens, NY.

ANOTHER NEW ‘DO FOR BEYONCE

Guess Beyonce wasn’t such a big fan of her pixie cut. Just a week after debuting the short ‘do on Twitter, the R&B superstar was spotted in Miami Beach with a longer reverse blunt blonde bob. So far there’s no word on whether it’s a wig, or simply extensions. And on Saturday, she  officiallydebuted the new haircut at the V festival in England.

ASIAN GROUP CALLS FOR CHANGES TO MACFARLANE’S DADS

The Seth MacFarlane produced comedy Dads is already causing controversy and it doesn’t premiere on Fox until September 17th. Two weeks ago, critics at the annual Television Critics Association press tour called out producers over the show’s content, and now the Media Action Network for Asian Americans has sent a letter asking the show reshoot “racist” scenes before the premiere airs. "Our community can't continue to be the target of racially insensitive jokes," President Guy Aoki wrote. "Fox has an opportunity to fix fatal flaws in the pilot and to improve the show's chances for success when it premieres next month. We are asking you to reshoot the inappropriate scenes of the pilot.” The scenes in question include one where actress Brenda Song dresses up as a “sexy Asian schoolgirl” during a meeting between the main characters and a Chinese businessman, and another where star Martin Mull calls Asians “Orientals.”

But brotherJimmy Workman, who played Pugsley in the 90s movie The Addams Family, has now filed legal documents in L.A. suggesting Shanelle is a bad influence on their younger sibling. He wants the court to strip Shanelle of custody so he can look after Ariel. He says Shanelle is exploiting Ariel’s fame and money to promote her acting school. He also says she has a history of drugs, is spending an exorbitant amount of Ariel’s money on a party lifestyle, and is poisoning Ariel against the rest of her family.

HAWKE WAS TOO IMMATURE FOR THURMAN MARRIAGE

Ethan Hawke admits he was probably too young when he tied the knot with Uma Thurman at age 27. "Success when you're young is really overwhelming," the 42-year-old tells Elle. "The world felt out of control. And I wanted to stop it from spinning so fast. I thought marriage would decrease my variables or something. I was absolutely wrong." The couple was married for five years and has two children. They separated in 2003 and Ethan admits his immaturity likely led to their divorce. “There was this discovery that the male brain isn't done until 28. I definitely think my frontal lobe was not finished," he said. "I had no business taking vows that would last more than two weeks."
